Ovarian Cystectomy

It incorporates the removal of cysts or tumor while preserving the ovary. Every effort is made to preserve the ovary for patients who desire fertility. Considerations for ovarian cystectomy include:

  • Patient’s age
  • Possibility of malignancy
  • Size of the cyst or tumor

Ovarian cysts are relatively common, but surgical treatment depends on whether or not you wish to maintain fertility, and also the condition of the cyst.

Tuboplasty & BTL

It is a surgical procedure performed on the fallopian tubes. It is often necessary to remove a blockage in one of the tubes that may occur either near where the tube meets the uterus or toward the end of the tube. Fallopian tube blockages may be caused by the formation of scar tissue, an infection or as a result of an earlier surgery.

Diagnostic Colposcopy

It is a procedure that involves closely examining your cervix, vagina and vulva for signs of disease. During colposcopy, your doctor uses a special instrument called a colposcope.

Your doctor may recommend colposcopy if your Pap test result is abnormal. If your doctor finds an unusual area of cells during your colposcopy procedure, a sample of tissue can be collected for laboratory testing (biopsy).

The focus of the clinic is to ensure patients are safely and well-prepared for their upcoming operation and that the day of the surgery runs smoothly.

The Pre-Surgical Screening Unit staff prepares you for surgery by:

  • Assessing your medical fitness for surgery and anesthesia before your operation and arranging tests and consults if needed. Any tests and/or assessments ordered by your surgeon must be completed before your surgery. This allows time for your surgeon to review results and prevent last-minute delays or cancellations
  • Providing you with important before-and-after surgery instructions
  • Answering your questions

Once patients have been prepared for surgery, they are transported to the Operating Room where their procedure is performed.

You will be greeted by an interdisciplinary team. You may meet Attendants, Registered Nurses (RN), Registered Practical Nurses (RPN), Respiratory Therapist (RT), Surgeons, Anesthetists and students.

The entire team works together to provide our patients with a positive, supportive surgical experience.
